"But it started to get cold," she continued. "Biahti started to freeze. We decided to leave our canoes here for the winter and continue on by dog team." She pointed to some pieces of bark and wood lying by her feet. "What do you think these are?"
Peter studied the sun bleached wood and rotting birch bark. He looked up at his grandmother, smiling. "Canoes! These are the two you left behind!"

Etsi nodded, "That was about 60 years ago."
"Let's take some pieces home with us!" said John.
"Ile. We must protect our history. Leave it here for others to see" replied his grandmother.
"Tell us more stories about birch bark canoes" asked Nora. "They must have been tippy! How long did it take to make one?"
