Exploring the Place
Hodoodzoo, or 'Sliding,' is one of many sacred sites linked with Yamozhah, a mythic Dogrib hero. For archaeologists, sacred sites of this nature are very difficult to identify, and almost impossible to interpret without the help of Dogrib oral history. For the Dogrib, the well-known story of Yamozhah and the wolverine has helped to preserve their knowledge of this place, demonstrating the importance of the oral tradition to the Dogrib's cultural memory.
